Albert was born as the elder twin to Albert F and Hazel James, on March 19th, 1924 Albert (or Jim as his friends called him) left this world for the happy hunting grounds on January 6, 2014 after a brief but valiant battle against esophageal cancer.
Albert and his 5 siblings attended the little schoolhouse located at the end of Copenhagen Rd. He once bragged about stuffing old rags in the chimney causing the room to fill with smoke and school to be canceled.
Gramps joined the Navy in 1942 and was medically discharged in 1944. He then went to work in the woods and became the best catskinner there ever was. He worked nearly every aspect of logging from setting chokers and topping trees to clearing landings and cutting new logging roads.
In August 1949 he married the love of his life Beverly N. Johnson. Together they had 4 children: Lois, Jerry, Marilyn and Albert Jr. The family was always on the go as Jim loved to hunt and fish often taking the boys on these trips while the girls stayed home with their mom. He was a stern but fair dad and his children loved him very much. This carried over to his grandchildren too. He could be seen watching even his great-grandchildren play sports.
He loved to travel, making memories with his wife and children, always with an extra child or two along for the ride. In later years those travels included the grandchildren. For several years Jim and Beverly worked diligently on fighting the government and educating other Indian people about Termination. He even spoke before the Senate Subcommittee on Indian Affairs in Washington D.C. regarding the illegal actions and violations of the governments trust responsibility. This was his passion and led ultimately to the purchase and settling of the new Table Bluff Reservation where he was an active tribal member and served many years as Tribal Chairman.
He was preceded in death by parents Albert and Hazel, brothers, Gerald and Melvin, sisters Loreta, Alzada and Alberta, and by daughters Lois and Marilyn and granddaughter Stephanie. However, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and life.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years Beverly N. James, son Jerry (Renee) James, son Albert I. James, son-in-law Steve Wilson, granddaughters Gail (Rich) Green, Anita (Rollin) Trehearne, Jackie (Jason) Braden, Alicia (Ronnie) Mello and grandson Vincent DiMarzo; great-grandchildren: Richie, Corinne, Allie, Matt, Kirsten, Josh, Jocelin, Katelin, Tyler, Taryn, Shane, Alana, Mariena, Ella, Anthony, River, Jayden, and Brianna; great-great grandchildren: Lola, Dominic and Alzada Lee as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
