Annette Thornton.. (May 1953- March 2020) in Fortuna, California..
An exciting day for our family… we had waited 8 years finally she arrived. A bouncing 10 pound baby girl with lots of hair and beautiful blue eyes. She was the apple of her father's eye and a more loving innocent child there ever was. I would summarize her as the absolute innocence of an era..the 50's. She grew up in the bay area and moved with her family to Carlotta, Ca in 1963.
Dad bought her a horse "Beauty" an old plugger that tried to throw all of us into the barbed wire fence.
Life was easy at Cuddyback School and Fortuna High School… she married and moved to the bay area with her family and did some general office work for various companies. Annette loved her craft work and beautiful afghans, quilts and crochet.
Shortly after bringing her family back to Humboldt she contracted pulmonary fibrosis and made a permanent home in the early 90’s in skilled nursing facilities in Humboldt County. Granada, Seaview and lastly Fortuna Rehab and Wellness Center. Her long term health issue finally took its toll at the Fortuna facility under the care of Hospice.
Annette was a gifted musician, writing many songs. She possessed perfect pitch. She could play any song she heard. Always enjoyed playing for the residents of the care homes. Annette had many friends in the local Christian community. She was preceded in death by her father Byron Simpson Sr and mother Lorraine Simpson, Fortuna.
She was survived by her 2 children Christy Hall Colorado Springs and Amy Ames of Anderson. She has numerous grand and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her niece Alyssa Bernhardt, niece Cristina Iskra, nephew Jerod Sexton, brother Bud Simpson of Paso Robles, sisters Valerie Simpson of Citrus Heights and Bonnie Bigelow of Surprise Arizona. Special thanks to Hospice of Humboldt, nurse Harley, Sylvia and Dr. George Jutila, Pastor Jerry Heine and wife Nancy, Life long friends, Jeff and Beth Miller special friend Emily Arents from St. Alban's Episcopal Church Arcata, Ca.
