Donald Leon Wilson passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2014 with loved ones by his side. He was born to Leona and Robert James Wilson on November 18, 1927 in Paso Robles, California. He was one of eight children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. Wilson. He enlisted in the army in 1946 and he served in Japan during World War II. With great pride he served under General Douglas McArthur as an honor guard. He had a great love for fishing and boating. He loved the outdoors and did a lot of traveling and camping over the years. He made friends wherever he went. He was a fun-loving man and will be remembered for his quick "wit." He could always make you laugh and bring a smile to your face. He enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. Woodworking was another hobby of his. He made beautiful burl clocks, mirrors and tables. He always looked forward to having coffee with his buddies at McDonald's, where they tried to solve the world's problems and shared their fishing stories. He was a truck driver most of his adult life. He worked 15 years for Sierra Pacific and 20 Years for Pacific Lumber Company. He retired in 1989. He is survived by Colleen Foster, who was the love of his life for the past 2 years, his daughters Cherie Martin and Charlene Covington, sons Ronnie Wilson, Ricky Wilson and Robert Wilson, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on September 18, 2014 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna, California. A graveside service will be held at Sunrise Cemetery, 3315 Newburg Road, Fortuna, California on September 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rod Sanderson officiating. A celebration of Life and potluck will follow at the Fortuna Fire Hall. Bring your favorite stories to share with family and friends. Honorary Pall Bearers will include Ron Doebel, Deke Kanen, Gary Caston, Jeff Covington, Scott Martin, Steve Swain, Bob Betschart and John Weber. Arrangements are under the care of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary.
