Doris Ruth Scalvini (Mrs. Scalvini)
Passed away quietly in her home listening to the birds ouside her window on June 4, 2013. Doris was born in Lockesburg, Arkansas to Olan and Ruby Chandler on October 27, 1937. When she was two years old her family made the journey to California and established their home in Scotia where Doris grew up.
Doris attended Scotia Elementary School and graduated from Fortuna High with the Class of 1955. She then attended cosmetology school in Oakland and eventually purchased and operated the Scotia Beauty Shop.
In 1960 she married Guy J Scalvini from Ferndale and they made their home on Cypress Loop in Fortuna. Doris worked at Fortuna Town School as the School Secretary for many years and then became an Instructional Aid before her retirement in 2004.
She loved her flower garden and spent hours watching the birds around her yard. She was an avid sports enthusiast. Enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in different sporting activities. She spent years listening to Mel and Tag on the local sports radio. She proudly sported her blue and white Fortuna Huskies and black and gold Pittsburg Steelers colors through out the year. She will be missed on family vacations and lunch dates with her buddies. She will be missed by her pets and family who listened to stories about growing up in Scotia and Fortuna.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Guy, her parents Olan and Ruby Chandler, her granddaughter Jonni Lyn Johnsgard, her brothers Glen and Tom Chandler, her dear friends Smokey and Janet McNaughton, Her sister-in-law Florence Hawkins and brother-in-law James Bass Sr, George (Gege) Scalvini and Albert Scalvini.
Doris is survived by and will be missed by her daughter Teresa and son-in-law Blake Johnsgard of Cottage Grove, OR; daughter Trudy and son-in-law Mike Bonnikson of Fortuna; her grandchildren Kassie and Devon Johnsgard-Trigg of Grants Pass, OR, Danna and Tyson Lacey of Sun River, OR, Til Bonnikson and Calley Bonnikson of Fortuna; great grandsons Brody Johnsgard, Lynx Lacey and Tristan Trigg. She is also survived by her very close friends Lucille Bonnikson and Barbara Hacket, along with many other friends and relatives to many to list.
Mom has gone home to her Lord but will always live on in our hearts.
A visitation will be held for Doris on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna. It will be followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 P.M. at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary. On Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. a graveside service will be held for Doris at Sunrise Cemetery, 3315 Newburg Road, Fortuna.
