DUANE JAMES BOWIE Sr. Duane James Bowie Sr. was born November 3, 1947 and passed away due to a long-term illness at the age of 68 on July 5, 2016. Duane was a fighter up until the day he went to Heaven. Duane J. Bowie Sr. was a proud member of the Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria. He was born in Eureka, CA and spent most of his life near and around Humboldt County. He attended school at Rohnerville Elementary and Fortuna High School. Duane enjoyed his job as a logger for over 20 years and worked for his Tribe as an EPA and maintenance worker. He loved nothing more than spending time and having fun with friends and family. He especially loved NASCAR and drove a race car at Redwood Acres. He loved hot rods and loved working on them. He loved to go fishing. He was an avid pool and dart player. He also loved to play cards and Yahtzee. He was a self-taught artist and created many beautiful drawings. Duane took pride in teaching his family the Native culture, especially teaching the youth how to make eel hooks. He truly enjoyed being around his family. He is survived by his grandchildren Louie, Payton, Joseph, Harinay, Jacob, Kikia, Trinity, Eddie, Autumn, Shyarra, Keeshan, Na-res, Kagen, Eugene, Franklin, Jr., Raider, Ronald, Gloria, Guillerono. He spent precious time with two of his granddaughters monkey "Evalina" and Baby Bear "Myriah" who were his constant companions. Duane is survived by his loving wife Cheree Bowie who he shared over 20 years of life together; his children Duane James Bowie Jr. (Georgina), Jimmy Bowie (Katie), Teresa Ballew (Joe Ballew), Edward "Gusto" Bowie, Franklin Donahue (Jenne), Lydia Robbins and Kapel Robbins; sisters Aileen Bowie-Meyer, Brenda Bowie, Eloise Bowie (Judy), and Norma Carter (Ivan Carter). He is preceded in death by his daughter Stacie Ann Bowie; sisters Janice McGinnis, Marion Bowie, Andrea Horne, twin brother Darrell Bowie; brother Victor Billy Sr. (Lilly Billy), and Lawrence "Gary" Bowie; his Mother Margaret Moon Bowie and Father Joseph "Joe" Bowie. PALLBEARERS for the services are Jimmy Bowie, Edward "Gusto" Bowie, Duane J. Bowie Jr, Franklin Donahue, Kapel Robbins, and Earl Moon. HONORARY CASKET BEARERS: Billy Robinson Sr., Gary Robinson, Roy Robinson, Danny Lopez, Jeremy Houston, Elmo Bowie, Brian Wells, Joe Ballew, Payton Ballew, Arthur Moon, Johnson Fiester, Ronald French, Llewellyn "Love Bug" French, Nathan French, Johnson Fiester, Dennis Brown and Clifford Frye. A wake will be held on Sunday, July 10th beginning at 5:00PM at 258 Carroll Rd in Loleta. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 12th at 1:00 p.m. at Gobles Mortuary. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery. A potluck reception will be held at the Tish-Non Community Center in Loleta immediately following the services.
