Egbert Embree Obituary

EGBERT "BERT" EMBREE born in Bellflower, CA Dec. 25, 1925 and died March 30, 2015. He passed away at Fortuna Rehabilitation after a long battle with Parkinsons disease. In 1948 he married Velma Pickett & lived in their hometown of Sierra Madre with their 4 children: Donald, David, Cynthia & Walter until 1967 when he became Fire Chief of the Morgan Hill Fire Dept. From there they spent 29 yrs. in Durango, CO and moved to Fortuna in 2001. He will be most remembered for his great camping trips throughout his life. As an Eagle Scout, with his parents, with friends and his family he loved to organize outings. His became known as the "Wagon Master" organizing everything from simple weekend getaways, to extended trips and back packing into the High Sierras and the Rocky Mountains of SW Colorado. A desert rat at heart, I believe he had an aversion for trees, as he was either in the desert or above the timberline. He always traveled with a camera. We have MANY pictures of all these adventures. He enjoyed teaching and training. He trained firemen all over Calif. & Colorado. His last stint was the AARP defensive driving training. The most important thing he taught all of us was to see nature: waterfalls, rocks, top of mountains, depth of Death Valley and be always willing to go check out what was over the next mountain or around the next corner. It might make a good picture, even if he had to wait for the right cloud. It's so lovely he found his final resting place among the Giant Redwoods of Northern California. His family wants to thank all the angels who took such loving care of him while he resided at Fortuna Rehabilitation. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com under Obituaries.
