Obituary for Ellen McGuire

Ellen Louise Henretty was born on December 31, 1935 in Gaylord, Michigan to Dwight and Reva Henretty. She passed away peacefully in her home on May 4, 2014 at the age of 78. For the last 19 years she was a resident of Redcrest, CA, with her husband Marshall Junior McGuire.

She graduated from Central Michigan University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught grades K-12 for 33 years from 1962 through 1995. She taught in both Michigan and California. Ellen and Marshall lived in various places in Michigan and since 1988 they have lived in California.

Ellen and Marshall have been lifelong travelers and have seen much of the world. Ellen enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, crocheting, computer games, card games, and cooking, among other pursuits. Ellen invested her time in her community and in her church as a leader/elder and music director throughout her life wherever she lived.

Ellen is survived by Marshall, her husband of 59 years, her brother Tom Henretty (Ava), her four children Valdeen Childs (Robin), Terry McGuire (Darrella), Cheryl Nichols (Steven), and Douglas McGuire (Denise). She had seven grandchildren: Kara Childs-Stephens (Clinton), Kayla McGuire-Roggenbuck (Nicholas), Rebecca Childs, Kory McGuire, Megan Nichols, Beau McGuire, Lillie McGuire, and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jensen Stephens.

Ellen is also survived by Marshall’s siblings Christina Foxx (Thom), Darlene Kuenzli (Ronald), Deloris White (Edward), Darrell McGuire (Shari), Sharon Stephens (Warren), and Roland McGuire (Debbie). She has many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Francis Mack and her brother-in-law Donald McGuire.

Memorial services for Ellen will be held at Hydesville Community Church, 3296 Highway 36, Hydesville, California, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 8, 2014. Pastor Michael Delamarian III will officiate.

An additional memorial service will be held in Sandusky, Michigan, date and time to be arranged. Interment will be in Mikado, Michigan.
