Ellyn passed away peacefully in Fortuna on December 20, 2013, a month before her 99th birthday. Born in Avinger, Louisiana, Ellyn was the first of nine brothers and sisters.
The family moved to Texas when she was a young girl, where she finished school and later went to work for the railroad as telephone/telegraph operator. Her job took her to various cities across the state.
In 1945, she married Paul Shaw and they moved to California, making their home in Scotia and Fortuna.
Both Ellyn and Paul worked for Pacific Lumber Company for 32 years. Paul as a construction Carpenter and Ellyn was a telephone operator in the companys main office.
They were married 55 years when Paul passed away in 2000.
Ellyn leaves her daughter Jo Ellyn and husband Lowell of Fortuna, grandson Paul of Scotia, granddaughter Leanne and husband Ron of Paradise, California and numerous family members in Texas and New Mexico.
Ellyns family will always by thankful to all of the wonderful people at Fortuna Rehab and Wellness for the loving care that she received for the last year and a half,
and especially to Ruth Lende for her loving care and friendship to Mom for 12 years at Bethel Care Home.
A memorial for Ellyn will take place at a future date.
