Evelyn Watts Alton was born August 19, 1924 in Delta, Utah and passed away peacefully on October 4, 2014. She was the 6th of 10 children born to Henry James Evan Watts and Lyona Sproul.
Evelyn had recently celebrated her 90th Birthday surrounded by friends and family members who had come from as far away as Utah and Canada.
One of her favorite pastimes as a teenager was attending local dances and she and her brothers won several dance contests. At one special dance hall in Washington she met her future husband, Richard Alton, who danced his way into her heart and made her a June bride.
They resided in Washington for a short time and then migrated to California in the redwoods area of Humboldt County. They eventually settled in Loleta where they raised their 3 children, Bonnie, Charlene and Daniel. Richard and Evelyn lived there for over 50 years.
Evelyn worked at the Loleta Creamery for over 20 years working her way up in various positions until she became a Lab Technician.
After retirement Richard and Evelyn moved to Hydesville where they have resided for the past
14 years.
Some of the favorite family activities were boating, water skiing, camping and traveling. After their retirement they continued their traveling including ocean cruises and were able to visit many countries including Mexico, Italy and the Virgin Islands.
Evelyn enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, sewing, and crocheting. She and Richard also spent many enjoyable times playing games, fishing and camping with friends.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Richard Alton and daughters Bonnie Kennon of Hydesville Ca.; Charlene (Weston) Despain of Sandy, Utah; and grandchildren Johnny (Deborah)Kennon Jr, Shaelene (Michael)Largent; Bernadine (Bryce) John; Tamera (James) Dealing; Diana (John) Gallup; Jared (Hollie) Despain; Travis (Patsy) Despain; Branden (Viridiana) Despain; and 27 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded by her parents Henry and Lyona Watts and her beloved son Daniel Watts Alton.
There will be a public viewing Wednesday October 8th, 2014 from 1:00 to7:00 pm at Gobles Mortuary in Fortuna. Graveside services will be held at Sunrise Cemetery in Fortuna, California, October 9th, 2014 at 1:00 pm under the direction of Gobles Mortuary.
Friends and family may gather and share memories after the services at Richard and Evelyn's home at 3075 Johnson Rd. in Hydesville, Ca. Arrangements are under the care of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th, Fortuna, California.
