Frances Pelley Pond

Frances Pelley Pond passed away October 31, 2013 at the age of 97. Born February 20, 1916 to James Pelley and Mary Eastergreen in Greely, Nebraska. Her family moved to Scotia in 1940. She went to Providence nursing school Oakland then returned to Scotia and later married Paul Pond. They lived in Rio Dell and had four children. Besides raising her children she was involved in St. Patricks Church in Scotia, the PTA, cub scouts and making homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She worked at the Scotia Hospital early on, then for Dr. Treadwell until her retirement.
She is survived by her brother Ed Pelley of Napa, son Brad Pond (Faye) of Santa Rosa, daughter Theresa Loper of Eureka, daughters in law Susan Pond of Bridgeville and Suzie Pond of Kauai. Grandchildren Katrina Pond (Lonnie) of Fortuna, Dane Pond (Kirsty) of Bridgeville, Shane Loper of Eureka, John Loper (Theresa) of Cresent City, Alex and Kieren Pond of Kauai. Great grandchildren Blayne , Jacey and William of Fortuna and Trigg of Bridgeville. Also numerous other nieces and nephews and her Rio Dell neighbors especially Esther Maxwell. Also a special thanks to Julia Nottingham for her time and care of Frances.
She was preceded in death by parents James and Mary Pelley, husband Paul Pond, sons Paul Pond and Edward Pond. Sisters Theresa Pelley, Eileen King and Brothers Fred, Leo and Mark. Son in law John Loper and great granddaughter Paisley Pond.
The services will be held at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Scotia, CA. on Thursday November 7, 2013 with the Rosary starting at 3:00 PM and the funeral Service following at 3:30 PM. There will be a gathering at the Fortuna Fire Hall afterwards. Donations can be made in Frances name to the Diabetes Society, Cancer Society or Hospice of Humboldt. Arrangements under the care of Gobles Fortuna Mortuary, Fortuna, CA.
