Francis Callan Obituary

Francis C. (Cal) Callan passed away, in the presence of his family, on Oct. 1, 2013 at his home in Fortuna, California. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on Dec. 21, 1923. Cal was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Irene (June) Callan.
Cal was a WWII veteran, serving as a Radioman on B17 and B24 aircraft. He was the last surviving member of his squadron VPB108. Cal spent his career in the U. S. Air Force and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1966.
Cal was an avid craftsman and artist. He built everything from violins to wooden canes and gunstocks and also built homes in Orland CA and Trinity County. He taught himself to paint and created scenes of the places he loved; cabins in the woods, rivers, barns, and happy little trees.
Cal is survived by his daughters Kathy Mills [Bob] of Fortuna and Colleen Callan of San Ramon, Grandchildren: Michael Mills, John Mills [Lori], and Stephanie Cady [Troy]. Great Grandchildren: Chelsea Kautz, Anthony Mills, Kristen Cady, Julie Cady, Zachary Mills, and Claire Mills. He is also survived by his Brother-in-law Glenn Berry and numerous nieces and nephews.
A joint celebration of life will be held for Cal and June later in the summer.
Cals family would like to thank Hospice of Humboldt for their care. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Humboldt.
