Frank Alexander Grant III was born in Eureka, CA on December 7, 1942, to Frank A. Grant II and Kathryn Ellen Waldner. Frank III was raised on the Hoopa Yurok Indian Reservation, attending grammar school and high school there, and graduating in 1960 as valedictorian. He earned his BS (1964) and MS (1966) in civil/sanitary engineering at Stanford University, marrying Carole Susan Magnus on their graduation day in 1966. After Stanford, Frank served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps stateside for 2 years and then earned a PhD in engineering at UC Berkeley in 1972. Frank worked over 30 years with MWH Global, an engineering firm, managing large projects in San Jose, Los Angeles, the Philippines, and Jordan. Frank was a vibrant man and lived along the Klamath River on the Yurok Reservation in a self-built cabin; and in Altadena, CA. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, travel, genealogy, playing Bridge and Scrabble, and setting net. Frank died peacefully 9/16 /2014 in his Altadena home as a result of cancer. Frank is survived by his wife Carole; sons Frank IV (wife Karen Myers) and Philip (wife Veronica Yank); grandchildren Frank V, Andrew, Eva and Naomi; brothers Zane Grant Sr., Laura Lee George, and James (Sonny) Jackson Jr., and step-mother Elinor Grant. Frank was pre-deceased by his father Frank II, mother Kathryn Ellen Waldner, step-father James (Jimmie) Jackson, and brother John (Chief) Jackson. Burial will occur at the Yurok Veterans Cemetery at 28263 Bald Hills Road outside Weitchpec at 1pm on Sunday, September 28th, followed by a reception at the Weitchpec Tribal Facility. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Pasadena, CA and in Jerusalem. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution in Frank's memory to your favorite charity. Arrangements were under the care of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna, California.
