Frederick Hamilton Obituary

F. Glenn Hamilton
March 10, 1925 - January 16, 2015
Born in Auburn, Washington & raised in Willits, California. He was the son of Fred and Martha Hamilton. In high school, Glenn played basketball and worked for CDF as a fire truck driver. He graduated from Willits High School in 1942. He served his country in the United States Naval Air Corps from 1942 -1946.
In 1946 Glenn married Lucille Marion Phillips. They had two sons: Garland Lee Hamilton and Ronald Steven Hamilton. Glenn attended San Jose State University for a year. Following in his father's footsteps, Glenn attended the Highway Patrol Academy in Sacramento in 1956. He enjoyed a 20 year career with the CHP enforcing commercial truck weights. He then worked as a gas tanker driver in Northern California for 21 years before retiring in 1997. He lovingly cared for his wife Marion through a long illness. She joined the Lord in 2001.
On September 17, 2002 Glenn married Janet Irene Nunes in the Baptist Church of Eureka of which he was a member for 20 years. He was quickly accepted and deeply loved by all of Janet's children Steve, Bill (Maria) and Nancy. Following their marriage Janet & Glenn enjoyed spending half of each week in Fortuna where they attended church, dances and social events and half of their week at Janet's home in Leggett where they reveled in the beauty of the environment and constant opportunities for exercise while gardening, chopping wood and maintaining the natural landscape.
Glenn always went out of his way to put a smile on the face of anyone he met. When working as a CHP officer on Christmas he pulled people over and gave them Christmas cards instead of tickets. When he drove the gas tankers to remote areas of the county he always took lollypops to the kids and newspapers and stories to the adults. For the past 10 years he was a greeter at the Presbyterian Church in Fortuna where he was well known for giving the best hugs to anyone in attendance. Glenn self published his memoirs that documented both his life and many major events in both Mendocino and Humboldt counties. There have been several occasions where a stranger knocked on the door of his residence to request a copy of his book. In his later years Glenn had a passion for reading Louie LaMore books and playing solitaire on his iPad.
Glenn leaves behind his loving wife Janet Hamilton. Two sons Garland Hamilton of Montana and Ronald & Janet Hamilton of Fortuna. Stepchildren Steve Nunes of Mississippi, Bill & Maria Nunes of Manteca, Ca and Nancy Fernandez of Fair Oaks, Ca. Glenn also leaves his three grandchildren Dawn, Jacqueline, Steven and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place at the Fortuna Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 1 st, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM
