HARVEY CALVIN GRIGGS passed away on Thursday March 5, 2015 at the age of 79. Harvey Griggs was born on October 15, 1935 in Santa Rosa, CA to Wesley and Aileen Griggs. Harvey was preceded in death by his father Wesley Justin Griggs, his mother Aileen Margaret Griggs and his nephews Richard Vincent Griggs and Nikolai Valtenbergs. Harvey is survived by his wife of 49 years and love of his life, Elona Griggs of Eureka, his five children Heather Hodge of Eureka and her husband Keith Hodge, Hilery Brown of Eureka and her husband George, Seth Griggs of Eureka and his wife Ashlee, Alicia Martin of Los Angeles and her husband Douglas, and Elliott Griggs of Santa Rosa and his wife Shaye. He is also survived by his brother Wes Griggs of Bullhead City, his sister Dolores Hansen of Santa Rosa and her husband Bill Hansen, and his sister Patty Valtenbergs of Eureka and her husband Mark. In addition Harvey is survived by 12 grandchildren: Brian, Nathaniel, Whitney, and Emily Hodge. Calvin, Caleb, and Caitlin Brown, Aiden and Ethan Griggs, Matthew and Claire Martin and Carter Griggs. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, their spouses and children including Jeanie Griggs, John Hansen, wife Carolyn and their 4 children, Joseph Hansen and his wife Arim, Beki Place and her husband Troy, and their 5 kids, Jacob Hansen and his wife Lisa, and Alexis Valtenbergs. Harvey lived a life devoted to God, his family and his church. His sense of humor, ready smile, and boy like sense of mischief endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was an active and dedicated member of Eureka 1st Church of the Nazarene. He had a strong work ethic and moral compass that made him a respected member of his community. In his life Harvey has milled and sold grape stakes, worked his dad's fruit stand, built churches, traveled as a missionary with his family, and preached in Brazil. He was even a pastor in Oregon for a short time in his early 20's to a small congregation. In 1979 Harvey began working with his dad learning how to manufacture crap pots. He went on to open his own business Custom Crab Pots and manufacture on a much larger scale. These traps can be found as far north as Alaska and as far south as Morro Bay. Harvey also loved truck driving. He always found some way to incorporate this occupation/hobby into his life. Services will be held at Eureka First Church of the Nazarene at 2039 E Street Eureka, CA 95503 at 12:30 pm on Friday the 13th of March. Graveside service to follow at 2:30 pm at Ocean View Cemetery, 3975 Broadway Eureka CA 95503. Reception to reconvene at Nazarene Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Eureka Nazarene's Blue Slide Camp scholarship fund.
