Ian Strouse Obituary

Ian Andrew Strouse April 19, 1972 - August 23, 2014 Ian unexpectedly passed away enjoying an afternoon ride on his motorcycle. Ian was born at the old Arcata Hospital. His grade school years were at Smith River Elementary School. At the age of ten he started working after school and weekends on the dairy in Smith River, where his family lived. He spent his high school years at Ferndale where he also worked on the Alexander Dairy. At 18 years old Ian started his career as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. From then on he was "hooked". In Alaska he fished king crab, opellio crab and salmon. Ian loved Alaska and planned to return someday. He also fished on many local boats including the Celtic Aire and the Alex. He loved fishing and being out on the ocean. Ian always took pride in his work. He was a hard working "mariner" as he would say. Besides being out on the sea, Ian enjoyed working his gold mine in Oregon; and flying his R/C plane and his R/C cars. No one was a stranger to Ian. He could make conversation with anyone. He was always carefree, true and genuine. Ian had a way with children and animals although he never had children of his own. His nieces, nephews and cousins adored him. His dogs and cats were his kids. He loved his family dearly. He was a true family man. Ian is survived by his mother Virginia ( Ron Dalton); sisters Olivia Cobian and Crystal ( Zeb Ziganti ); nieces Persia, Zaia, and Kamaile; nephew Forrest; grandmother Eunice Rodriguez; aunts and uncles Patty and Robert Munoz, Celia and Keith Waldron; cousins Michele & son Chris Carlson, Tony Cazabat, Mike (Jessica) and son Michael Munoz, Stephanie Munoz and sons Zachary and Nikolas; and his sweetheart Dianne Nelson, whom he loved very much and her daughter Gina Nelson. He is also survived by his extended family Genaro Cobian, Norma, Adriana, Delia and Juan Cobian; and Ian's best friends and fishing brothers Melvin Arnold, Russell Gilliam and Mike Coblentz. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at Goble's Mortuary 560 12th Street, Fortuna Ca 95540 at 3:00 PM on August 31, 2014. Viewing 12:00 PM-3:00 PM, service at 3:00 PM.
