Irene Maria Marca

Irene Maria Marca passed away peacefully on October 8, 2013, in Fortuna at the age of 95. She was a resident of Fortuna.
Irene was born February 1, 1918 in Eureka to Giuseppe Belluomini and Elvira Marroni. She was the eldest of three children. At a young age she worked at Daly's as a seamstress for many years. She married Primo Marca in 1936 and together they made their life in Ferndale in the bakery business. For many years they owned and operated Marca's Bakery until their retirement in 1966.
Irene always worked by her husband's side, helping him adorn the numerous wedding cakes that were made.
She always had the bakery nicely decorated especially for the holidays, and in her white uniform, she always served the customers with a smile.
In 1966 after their retirement they moved to Europe, where they resided for several years, mainly in Switzerland. In 1976 they returned to the USA and settled in Fortuna; where she and her husband made their home.
Irene was a very private person who loved her family, flowers and took good care of them and the house. She was always outside planting or tending to her flowers. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Primo Marca, sisters Norma Forsgard, and Mabel McBride, brothers-in-law Fred Forsgard and Brian McBride, her son-in-law Alberto Ponzio and many others.
She is survived by her daughters Ramona Camesi (Marino) of Eureka and Carmen Ponzio of Switzerland. Her grandchildren Yuri Camesi (Shanitra), Lory Camesi (Kristina), Flavio Camesi (Kathy), Joyce Pedrini (Omar) and Enea Ponzio (Fabiana); her great-grandchildren Caleb, Jayden, Mia, Skylah, Peyton, Nettie-Jo, and Oscar along with numerous nieces and nephews here and in Switzerland.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Fortuna Rehabilitation & Wellness Center for their considerate support and loving care during the years she resided there and all the friends who so kindly came to visit her.
We would also like to thank Dr. Jutlia for all the care he gave to our mother. Friends and family are invited for visitation on Friday, Oct 11, 2013 from noon until 4:00 pm, with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 14th and N streets, in Fortuna with Father Manuel Chavez as celebrant.
Encryptment will follow at Ocean View Mausoleum in Eureka. Pallbearers will be Marino Camesi, Aldo Marca, Gerald Marca and Raymond Marca. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
