Jimmie died on Friday, March 7, 2014. She was born Jimmie Nall on September 23, 1926 on a farm outside Turkey, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle. She married Robert Ballinger in 1948, whom she met in San Antonio, Texas where she was a purchasing agent for the Navy. He was attending chiropractic college and playing in the USO Band. They were married until his death in August 1994. They moved to Fortuna in 1951. She was an accomplished cook, influencing subsequent generations of her extended family and friends with her love of food and wine. She loved her house and gardening. She was injured in an auto accident in November, 2006 spending her remaining year's as a functioning quadriplegic. Her positive attitude and refusal to bow to her circumstances was a continuous inspiration to her family and friends.
Her daughter, Judith Baird, proceeded her in death in January 2012. She is survived by her son, Robert Ballinger, her grandchildren, Adam Brudney, Emily Brudney Gruppman, Aaron Ballinger, Brent Ballinger, Laura Ballinger, Sarah Baird Weinhardt,and Rebecca Baird, her great grandchildren Dahvid and Zane Gruppman, and Ian LaBaron, her son-in-law Dr. Don Baird her longtime companion David Hull, her extended family and numerous friends.
There will be a private family committal service for Jimmie at Sunrise Cemetery. With a memorial service for family and friends at the Fortuna United Methodist Church, 922 N Street, Fortuna on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. followed by a reception at the River Lodge, 1800 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna at 5:00 P.M.
She loved deeply, was very loved and will be missed.
