Lelis Lindsey Obituary

Lelis "Kit" Lindsey

Lelis "Kit" Lindsey, born May 1, 1914 in Portland, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the company of loved ones. Lelis was born in Portland, Oregon and lived along the west coast all her life, residing in Fortuna for the last fifty-five years.

She worked various part-time jobs while her children were young. To aid in the war effort, she worked as a welder on the San Francisco boat docks. Once her children were away at school, Lelis obtained her nursing degree and spent over forty years dedicated to the nursing profession.

Lelis enjoyed many hobbies, including jigsaw puzzles, collecting shells, crocheting, and quilting. She was a very caring and giving person. Her labor of love was making baby quilts and mailing them to the missions overseas. At last count she had sent 746 quilts to keep babies warm and cozy.

She loved her family more than anything and cherished the time spent with them. Nana Kit will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, spunky attitude, and spry sense of humor by her family.
Lelis is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sue Carson; her granddaughters Linda Lewis, Nancy Goddin, Connie Bernard, and Cindy Gilmore; her great grandchildren Brooke Sandberg, Brittany Wilson, Brandon Bernard, Breanna Bernard, Matthew Gillam, Breanne Gilmore, Justin Burzo, Jamie Burzo, and Lucas Lewis; and her great-great grandchildren Annabelle Raven, Autumn Wilson, Coleen, Gabriel, Elijah, and Amelia Sandberg, and Allie Bernard, in addition to countless other friends and family who were blessed to have been part of her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Myrtle Cratty; siblings Paul, Carl and Erma Cratty; her daughter, Joan Lewis and son-in-law Warren Lewis.

Lelis was a member of the Fortuna Seventh Day Adventist church, and enjoyed her church family and friends dearly. A special thanks to Faye and Evelyn for loving her so much. The family would like to thank the staff at Fortuna Rehabilitation and Wellness Center for their excellent care and their loving, compassionate concern for our Mother.

Family and friends are invited to attend services at the Fortuna Seventh Day Adventist church Tuesday, July 16th, at 2:00pm. Please join the family for potluck immediately following the service.
