LOURDES LUCY ROCHA
Lourdes "Lucy" Rocha was born October 2, 1927 and died on April 23, 2016. Her parents were John and Frances Silva. Lucy was the seventh child born in a family of fourteen children. She was a native and lifelong resident of Ferndale. Lucy was raised on the family dairy, at Sage Ranch. She attended Grant Union Elementary School and graduated from Ferndale Union High School in the class of 1947.
In 1951 she married Tony Rocha, and they operated a dairy on Fulmor Road for 42 years, where they also raised three children, Wayne, Laura and Ernest. Lucy was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening work, and bowling for many years, including traveling with the Match Club. She was an active member and volunteer at the Assumption Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Ferndale Museum, and several Portuguese Lodge Associations.
Lucy also belonged to the Ferndale Red Hats Club which she enjoyed very much. She was an instructor for the Ferndale Senior Exercise class. She was always a ready volunteer for various community, church and charity projects. Lucy liked to travel with her husband and many friends, including two trips to the Azores to visit relatives from her parents home towns.
Lucy is the grandmother of Amanda Bailey of Tucson Arizona.
She is survived by; daughter Laura Bryden and husband Tom of Prescott Arizona; son Wayne Rocha and his wife Linda of Arcata; and son Ernest Rocha of Eureka. She is also survived by sisters; Alice Kirtley, Eureka; Evelyn Parks, Willits; and brothers; Maurice Silva and his wife Betty of Ferndale; Frank Silva from Florida; George Silva and his wife Lois of Hayfork; Henry Silva and his wife Angie of Fortuna; Joe Silva of Santa Rosa; and sister-in-laws Rosemary Silva of Eureka; Dolores Follis of Tyler Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Antone "Tony" Rocha; parents John and Frances Silva; her sisters Marie Mendes; Velma Rocha; Angie Guileri Dias; and her brother John Silva. She is also preceded in death by sister-in-law Faye Silva of Santa Rosa; and brother-in-laws Ernest Rocha, Joe Mendes, Joe Rocha, Jr., Alfred Guileri and Charles Follis.
The family would like to thank everyone for the caring assistance given to Lucy by the staff at Brookdale in Fortuna and Hospice of Humboldt.
Arrangements are under the care of Gobles Fortuna Mortuary in Fortuna. Visitation will be at Gobles Mortuary, 560 12th. St., Fortuna, Friday, April 29th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
Services will be held at the Assumption Catholic Church in Ferndale on Saturday, April 30th at 11:00 am, with reception to follow.
