Marilyn Salem, Marilyn passed away peacefully on January 28, 2015 in Fortuna, CA. Marilyn was born in Gettysburg, South Dakota. After graduating from high school in Belle Fourche, SD she became a registered nurse, graduating from St. Luke's Hospital in Denver, CO. Marilyn lived in Emporia, KS for many years, raising her two adopted daughters and making many lasting contributions to the community. She moved to southern California in 1985 and lived in Palm Desert until recently moving to Sequoia Springs in Fortuna, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Boyd Klingler, and the father of her daughters Dr. Richard Schellinger. Marilyn is survived by her children Anne (Rich) Jacobsen, Fox Lake, IL and Merry (Dan) Phillips, Eureka, CA, grandson Wally Joyce (Watertown, Mass.), sister Freda (Charles) Haskovec (Fort Worth, TX), several nieces and nephews, and her former husband Jack Salem (Palm Desert). Wherever she lived she created many lasting memories and made new friends into family. Marilyn lived a rich life full of many diverse experiences, touching many lives along the way with her lasting contributions to the communities where she lived. She chose to be remembered quietly in prayer; there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, those who wish are invited to contribute to Christ Episcopal Church in Eureka, CA or a charity of your choice. Marilyn's family would like to thank the staff at Sequoia Springs for their care for Marilyn during her brief stay there. And we offer special thanks to the wonderful staff at Redwood Memorial Hospital for providing such excellent medical care and support to all of us during her final time there
