Pamela Lynn Casacca was born October 8, 1943 in Vallejo, CA. She passed away peacefully at home in Fortuna on January 12, 2014 at the age of 70.
Pam and her family moved to Fortuna when Pam was 7 years old. She attended both Fortuna Elementary and Fortuna High graduating in 1961. Pam attended Beauty College in San Francisco. After graduation she returned to Humboldt County and went to work with her mom as a beautician at Granvalls Beauty Salon on L Street in Fortuna. The salon was eventually re-located behind Pams home. Pam was in business for 50 years as the owner/operator of Granvalls. Pam was known to make house calls for hair appointments at St. Lukes and other nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She regularly picked up customers who could no longer drive to their hair appointments.
Pam had also been a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She recently had received her 50-year pin. Pam was strong in her faith as a devoted Lutheran. She was a long-time member of the Fortuna Christ Lutheran Church.
Pam had several very close girl friends since grammar school. They attended elementary school and high school together and they were still meeting regularly for coke. Pam loved to eat out. Bobs Footlongs was one of her favorite diners. She would meet another group of friends called the lunch bunch regularly on Wednesdays for lunch at Bobs.
Pam was an avid 49er and SF Giants fan as well as a Fortuna Huskies Fan. They say she bled blue. You could always find Pam at Husky Field in the stands on the 50 yard line. She enjoyed watching the Huskies play football, especially when she had someone special to watch on the field. She just recently watched her grandson Landon play football in the Alumni game.
Pam volunteered for many years to keep score and run the shot clock at Fortuna High basketball games. Before it was illegal she was known to chase the referees.
At outdoor soccer, baseball and softball games Pam was easy to find. She always wore a blue sequined visor. Her granddaughter Jillian would call her the Bedazzler.
Pam never missed her childrens, grandchildrens or godsons sporting events. She attended all of her childrens and grandchildrens 4-H and FFA events. She loved helping them with their animals and dearly loved vacationing at the fairs.
Prior to becoming ill with Mesothelioma Pam volunteered for the Fortuna Police Department as a member of the S.C.O.P. Over the years Pam volunteered her time for many years selling tickets for the Fortuna Rodeo Association, teaching Sunday school classes, donating time to the Fortuna Fire Department Womens Auxiliary and many more local organizations. She was very proud to be chosen as a recipient of the Ruby Award given by the Eel River Valley Soroptimist for her service to the community.
Pam met her husband Garth at a Sheepherders Ball in Bear River and were married shortly after they met. Garth & Pam were married for over 48 years.
Pam is preceded in death by parents Walter and Evelyn Granvall, sister Carol Silberschlag, father & mother-in-law Lloyd and Evelyn Casacca and sister-in-law Bonnie.
