Phyllis passed away on March 6, 2014 from complications from COPD. She was 72 years old. Phyllis was born to Gertrude and Anton Michel on May 30, 1941 in Fortuna, California and was raised in Ferndale where they made their home. She was the only girl surrounded by her older brothers John and Rich and younger brother Dirk. She attended Ferndale Elementary and Ferndale Union High School as a member of the class of 1960.
She and her two children, Daniel and Cathleen moved to Long Beach, CA after she married her husband William on June 30, 1966. There she gave birth to her third child Tracy. The family then moved to Dixon, CA where Bill completed his service in the Navy and then moved the family back to Ferndale where she resided until last year when she moved into Emeritus, Senior Care Facility.
Known as a fixture behind the counter at Beckers/Greeks and in front of the counter at the Palace, she loved the people of her hometown and was equally loved in return. Phyllis was an avid 49rs, Judge Judy and Deadliest Catch fan and was happiest when drinking an Iced Vanilla Coffee from McDonalds.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband William, her brothers John, Rich and Dirk and her Mother Gertrude and she is survived by her stepfather Van Smith, her children and grandchildren, Nathan, Stephanie, Sara, Aubrey and Cassandra as well as one great grandchild, Kayla.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday March 12, 2014 in Ferndale at the VFW hall.
