In 1995 he started his career in the field of parks and recreation when he joined the California Conservation Corp. During his time in the CCC he learned the love of trail work. In 2000, he became a Senior Park Aid working for roads, trails, and resources for California State Parks at Prairie Creek State Park. He then promoted to Permanent Maintenance Aid at Humboldt Redwoods State Park where he lead numerous CCC and DPR trail crews in maintaining the vast park trail system throughout Humboldt Redwoods State Park. In 2008 Shane promoted to Park Maintenance Supervisor for Humboldt Redwoods State Park. During his career at Humboldt Redwoods State Park he developed and encouraged a strong supportive staff to meet the challenges of maintaining and preserving the state's extraordinary landmark. Shane thrived as the captain of "Team Kleinschmidt," his pride and joy. He devoted his life to his children Jessica and Gavin. Having Gavin and Jessica's friends in tow, Shane ran a ship with a "no man left behind" policy. He was a strong supporter of the soccer team as a coach, a ref, and a fan. He followed and cheered for his children through rugby, football, soccer, and softball. He was an avid outdoors man loving boating, skiing, all water sports, camping, hiking, and fishing. Shane is survived by his daughter Jessica and his son Gavin of Fortuna; his parents Merle and Cheryl of Benicia, Ca; his grandfather James Davenport of Las Vegas, NV; sister Dawn Murphy (Steve Nissenson) of Vallejo, CA; and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
