Shirley Ann Johnson is resting in the arms of Jesus. On December 9, 2013 Shirley breathed her last surrounded by her seven children, in a room full of love and admiration. Shirley was born to the late Mary and Ignace Balcunas on March 30, 1931 in Raymond, Washington. She graduated from Willapa Valley High School in 1947. Shirley received her RN degree at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Tacoma, Washington in 1952. Shirley married the love of her life, Martin L. Johnson and together they built a loving home for their family. During her nursing career she worked at several hospitals in Washington. Then after moving to Carlotta, California to run Martin & Shirley's market, she worked at General Hospital and Redwood Memorial Hospital. One of her proudest moments was being the first person to use the defibrillator on a patient at Redwood Memorial Hospital. When Martin suddenly passed away, Shirley quit nursing to keep their young family together by continuing to operate Martin & Shirley's market. Hard work and compassion were a big part of her life. Her door was always open to anyone in need. Many people benefited from her generosity. Shirley was an avid Seattle Seahawk and Mariners fan, but her loving children made her into one of the most devoted San Francisco Giants fan ever. Watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports was one of the highlights of her life. She leaves behind her sisters: Julie (Brick) Kuney, Martha Niemcziek, Joan (John) Kalb and Jennie (Bob) Canevari, Sons: Buzz, Steve (Becky); Daughters: Mary (Bill), Joann (Ted), Debbie (Wes), Sherry (Frank), Marcia and Kathi, Her grandchildren: Reggie, Leanne, Clint (Emily), Deacon (Melissa), Sabrina (Sam), Shennon, Joe, Tom, Greg, Danielle, Sarah, Nicole, Michael, Morgan and Katie, Her great grandchildren: Wyatt, Tia, Kylee Ann; Haylee, Chris, Alex, Claire, Jacob, Carrie-Anna, Sam, Emmitt, lots of nieces and nephews and cousins...too many to name, but she loved them dearly. Shirley will join in heaven Martin, brother Johnny, brothers-in-law Kenny Johnson and Victor Niemcziek, and son-in-law Ted. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 6-8:00 PM at Gobles Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th Street, Fortuna, California.
