Stephen G. Lloyd went to be with the Lord Memorial Day, May 26, 2014, at the age of 63 . Stephen passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. Through his illness, Stephen loved God with all his heart and even in his extreme pain his faith in God gave him great peace which never waivered. It was said of him by those who watched him fight his eight month battle with cancer, that he was valiant warrior, and so he was.
Stephen was born July 19, 1950 in Riverside, California. After graduating High School, he joined the USMC in 1971 to 1972 where he was an air traffic controller in Okinawa. He received his pilot's license in 1970 and graduated at San Joaquin Delta College in 1983.
Stephen began working for Cal Fire in 1981 where he enjoyed his 30 year career as a Fire Captain. He retired in June 2011. He was a retired Chaplain for the State and also served as a volunteer for Gideon International Bible Society for twenty years.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Lynnette; children Jassen Lloyd of Eureka, Jeffrey and Shelly Lloyd of Eureka, Jeremiah and Emily Herron of Eureka, Aaron and Joy Brunton of Sacramento, and Paul Herron of Wyoming. Grandchildren: Emmit, Liam, Morgan, Scarlet, Elsie and Matthew Stephen. His mother, Marjorie Dobbs, sister Georgia Lloyd and brother, David and Donna Lloyd of Riverside. He also had several nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideon's International (an organization that places free Bibles in hotels throughout the world) or Voice of the Martyrs (P.O. Box 443, Bartlesville, OK 74005) serving persecuted Christians in 56 countries.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service at Arcata First Baptist Church, 17th and Union Streets, officiated by Pastor Dennis McGuire on June 5th, 2014 at 1:00 with a graveside service following at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, Ca.
