Thomas Gerald Huffman March 28, 1942 -December 2, 2014 Thomas Gerald Huffman passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on December 2, 2014 in Salinas, CA at the age of 72. He was born in Morehouse, Missouri and the family moved to Central California when he was 3 months old. They soon moved to the Salem, Oregon area for a few years and in 1955 settled in the Arcata, CA area. He attended Blue Lake Elementary School and graduated from Arcata High School in 1960. He began working in the sawmills immediately after graduation, beginning on the green chain and through the years became a lumber grader and then sawyer. When the lumber industry declined he went to work for the Humboldt County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator and operated the gravel crusher which worked throughout the county crushing rock for the road crews. He retired after 30 years with the county. In 1961 he married Patricia Moehnke and they lived in Orleans, CA for five years, and the past 47 years in Loleta. He enjoyed being a hobby farmer: raising a few cows on his property and tending a large garden. He was so proud of his sons and was always supportive of all their sporting and 4-H activities, with many fun times spent at competitions and the local fairs. He became a Christian at the age of 20, and attended Faith Center in Eureka and Salinas Valley Community Church in Salinas. He is preceded in death by his father Tom Huffman and sister Joyce Scott. He is survived by his mother Willodean Huffman of Salinas, CA; wife Pat Huffman, Salinas; sons John (Crystal) Huffman and their daughter Brianna of Paradise, CA, Doug (Michelle) and their daughter Madeline of Rowlett, TX, Dan (Viktoriya) and their son Axel of Kidesh, Ukraine, and Ken Huffman, Salinas; brother-in-law Francis Scott of Fieldbrook and brother-in-law Larry (Debbie) Moehnke of Washougal, WA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews Beverly Scott, Snomohish, WA; Sandy Ritchie, McKinleyville, John Scott, Arcata, and Ben Moehnke, Corvalis, OR. Funeral services are under the direction of Goble's in Fortuna, with viewing Tuesday evening and graveside services at Ocean View Cemetery, Wednesday December 10th at 1:00pm.
