William Miller Obituary

WILLIAM "BILL" REED MILLER Born February 3, 1936 Gold Beach, Oregon Died July 27, 2015 age 79 in Fortuna, California of congestive heart failure. He was descended from Oregon pioneer families including his great-grandfather John J McBride who was wounded at the battle of Shiloh in 1863 fighting under Ulysses S. Grant; and Abraham Reed Miller who settled in Gold Beach, Oregon area on the Rogue River in the 1880's leaving behind many descendants throughout Southern Oregon and Northern California. He was the son of Edwin T. "Ted" Miller and Sadie G. Wells Miller of Crescent City, California; brother of Edwin A. Miller of Centralia, Washington and Juanita M. "Suzy" Miller Griggs Doerner Taylor of Grants Pass, Oregon all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his sister-in-law Avon Stanley Miller of Centralia, Washington, his brother Leroy L. Miller of Bail, Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews including members of the Colvin and Bauer families of Curry County, Oregon. He was also survived by friends Carlo and Linda Millsap and Pat and Marge Millsap all of Fernley, Nevada; and Samantha Millsap Green and Terry and family of Lakeside, California. Bill graduated from Port Orford High School, Port Orford, Oregon in 1954. He served in the United States Navy 1954-1958 as a hospital corpsman attached to a Marine division in Japan, Okinawa and the Philippines. Bill worked for the Pacific Lumber Company 1961-1998 in Scotia, California. He served in the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department during that time rising to the rank of deputy Fire Chief. He lived in Fortuna, California from his retirement until his death. Bill was an avid sportsman, often fishing with his brother Bud throughout the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Alaska; and locally with friends of many years Carlo Millsap and Mike Bushnell. His ashes will be interred in the family plot in Crescent City Cemetery, Crescent City, California.
