William Paredes Obituary

Guillermo Chota Paredes (William or Willie Bee as he was called by his beloved wife Rosa) was self-taught in the many areas to which he enjoyed bringing his expertise: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, concrete, roofing, gardening and singing. He once even taught himself to play the mandolin, in order to play his favorite romantic musical piece “Autumn Leaves” for his Rosita. Later he taught himself to bake this amazing country bread which he made every month for his daughters and grandchildren. He spent his later years taking care of Rosa as her mobility became compromised by arthritis pain. His daughters supported them, as needed, but because of William, he and Rosie were able to live independently into his 90’s.

William was introduce to the SDA message as a boy of 8 years. His father gave his heart to the Lord after hearing the message of hope from Fernando Stahl, a wellknown SDA health missionary to Peru in the 1930’s; and as a result William was able to attend the Seventh-Day Adventist Colegio Union in Naña, Peru. After he finished his schooling he traveled extensively around Andes in Peru sharing the SDA message of health and God’s love. One auspicious summer William worked as an Amazon river guide for a medical missionary Dr. Ray Pellow providing basic medical care to and translation for the native people of that region. Dr. Pellow became William’s mentor and sponsor. William immigrated to the US when he was 28 years old, and as a result was able to sponsor his wife and work to invite his brothers and sisters to join him in the US.

William was inspired to work in the medical field given his time with Dr. Pellow. He trained as a nurse in the Porter Memorial SDA hospital in CO, and then decided to move his family to CA where he worked at the Glendale SDA Hospital. In CA he trained to become an inhalation therapist, (now called respiratory therapy) working in southern CA for almost 20 years. William and his wife Rosa worked tirelessly together in the service of the Lord within the SDA church communities wherever they lived. William loved to sing hymns of praise and his message to anyone willing to listen was to “always be ready for the Second Coming of Jesus”. William died with the precious hope and conviction that he would see his loved ones again in heaven.
